Blog

Stop the lurking and start the sharing!

via Babs Golden

Okay, I realize a bit of back story is probably needed here.  I’ve got a really great friend (you know, the friend that you don’t get to talk to everyday, the one that lives far away, but is always there for you and you for her?).  When she calls, all of the sudden it’s 10 years ago, before kids, when we worked too hard and played even harder.  You get the idea.  I can tell her pretty much anything.  So, when she called to talk about starting a blog, I was all in.

A funny thing happened as we were hashing out the definitions of posts, comments and followers.  She told me that she reads several blogs, but never comments.  I told her that not commenting made her a “lurker”!  Fortunately, she didn’t take offense to me calling her  a name.  But it led us to an interesting conversation about what blogs are really for.  What we came up with was that blogging is a way of sharing with your community, your family and your friends.  You don’t have to be in the same town or even the same country for that matter.  But when you share the same passion as someone else through their blog, it’s a special thing.  Commenting is a way to communicate your thoughts and feelings to others.  In some ways, it’s similar to having a really great friend that you don’t see or talk to every day, but is always there for you.

I want you all to know how much I appreciate each and every one of your comments.  I try so hard to comment back to you all, but when I can’t know that I wanted to.  It means the world to me that you would take time out of your day to talk to me and share your thoughts.  Babs sent me the photo above after we talked the other day.  It makes me feel inspired to do my best for you, my readers, every day.  And for all of you “lurkers” (wink, wink) out there, write a comment, send me an email, I’d love to hear what you have to share, too.

Blogger weekend/Part 1: the Cottage

Me, Angela from The Painted House, Shannon from Shannon Berrey Design, Heidi, Rhoda from Southern Hospitality and Renae from Renae Moore Designs

I’ve spent the day reviewing the mind boggling amount of photos that I took this past weekend in NC.  Of course, I had to start with this one.  These are the amazing women who I was lucky enough to spend a few days with.  Don’t they all take a great photo?  Except me, of course, do you ever like a photo of yourself?  Oh well, maybe next time…

Anyway, I’ve been trying to figure out how best to show you our weekend.  I have so many photos that I decided it was best to break it up into parts.  The natural place to start seemed to be the beautiful cottage where we stayed.  Believe me, I could spend many a day and night in that place.  Angela, our amazing host, took the cottage from a dark dingy place into the light and airy retreat that it is now.  She’s done such a wonderful job, that the cottage is actually being featured in Cottages and Bungalows this month.  Enjoy!

The view as you pull up

When we pulled up, there were at least 6 turkeys in the back yard.  I tried to get a photo, but they were too quick!

As you walk in the front door, this is your beautiful view.

Unfortunately, my photos of a couple of the rooms were too dark, so I took these from VRBO.com.

This is where we hung out and watched the premiere of the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond‘s new show on the Food Network.  Did you watch?

And finally, the view…Is there anything better than this?

cottage chat

Well, maybe just this.  New friends and old (no jokes here Renae and Rhoda, you know what I mean!) chatting it up.

I hope you enjoyed my tour of Angela’s beautiful cottage.  Did you know that she loves to have guests?  If you need a relaxing getaway, head over here and make a reservation quick.  With all of it’s famous guests, I have a feeling it’s going to be booked up for a while.

Have a great day!
